From Imperfection to Art

An Introduction to Pennie Spence Photography

Recently an artist photographer was featured in a local paper. My parents were so impressed with the photograph featured on the front page, they passed it along to me for our social media page. I didn’t want to offend my parents, but I know anyone can get one lucky shot. It’s when you look deeper you discover if the photographer is talented.

The next day I searched her on the Internet. I took one look at her stuff and I had to meet her. When we sat down for coffee, I found out her photos are featured all over the world. She was featured in Lima, Venice, Miami, Paris, in 5 locations in New York City, including an image projected on the side of a 32 story building. How cool is that? That happened at the Brooklyn Night Bazaar. In addition, she was featured in Times Square. She’s the real deal. She was even featured in the Louvre.

Her next international destination is Berlin and Amsterdam. Locally, she is the newest addition to the Grand Haven Gallery. It is a venue featuring Michigan artist photographers owned and hosted by Jason Helmer. You can find Grand Haven Gallery in Eastown on Beechtree in Grand Haven. Also, she was named the Honorable Mention in the FOTOG Exhibit last Fall in Holland, Michigan. She is currently organizing a showing for C2C Gallery.

“I find beauty in imperfection & turn the ordinary into art,” said Pennie.

I am a fan of Bob Walma’s urban decay photography, so I couldn’t wait to see this image taken in Sturgis, Michigan. She clearly has a love for urban decay photography too. Capturing beauty in chaos is something special.

She also enjoys nature photography. Her love for imperfection comes through in this brilliant image.

Another passion of hers is live event photography. She does not ask performers to pose for photos. She captures a live event in still photos considering light, quality and context. Pennie specializes in low-light performance photography. With 12 years of photography experience she has an eye for great photos.
